Jeff and Jamie
Serving in South Asia
Jeff and Jamie are Western Pennsylvanians who came to Christ from very different backgrounds (Jeff via the military and gangster friends who became Christians, while Jamie became a believer in high school), but were drawn together with a common desire to follow God’s call into missions. After marriage in 1994 and a nursing degree for Jamie, they were first led to a church-planting team in Central Asia. Jeff then went to seminary and they were subsequently led to serve in South Asia, where Jeff teaches seminarians and assists the leadership of a local church that is in a city with many
college students, similar to Pittsburgh. Jamie uses her nursing background in health education and women’s ministry as well as hospitality to their unbelieving neighbors. In the midst of all this, the couple have raised 5 children who now range in age from 10 to 24. The onset of the worldwide Covid pandemic in 2020 forced Jeff and Jamie back to the States, and then Jeff became ill with abdominal cancer that required extensive recovery due to delayed surgical healing and difficulty with eating and digestion. Thankfully, the Lord has fully healed Jeff and the way was opened for the couple and
their younger children to return to their work in South Asia at the beginning of June 2023, after three years stateside.
Praise:
1. For healing for Jeff such that they have been able to return to their work there after
much uncertainty and medical care.
2. For provision of visas allowing their return to their field of service.
3. For stable situations for their older children who will remain in the States.
Prayer:
1. For Jeff’s health to be sustained in an environment where the advanced medical care
that he has received here is not available. For strength and stamina as he resumes his
seminary teaching responsibilities.
2. For re-adjustment to their work after a 3 + year physical absence; pray for their
younger children returning to a radically different culture.
3. Pray for their older children in the States, that they would thrive and grow in their faith
in Christ, find healthy churches to be a part of and flourish in their collegiate/work lives.
4. For Jeff and Jamie to be an encouragement to the local believers in a country where
persecution of the minority Christian population is on the rise. Pray for Jamie as she
seeks to use her gift of hospitality to bless unbelieving neighbors.
5. For a young refugee couple from Afghanistan that Jeff and Jamie were ministering to
in Pittsburgh, that they could get connected with Christians at City. The couple need
friendship and the husband is looking for work after doing logistics for the US military in
Afghanistan.
